Eric Gerdau earned his BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and was recipient of the prestigious European Honors Program where he spent a year of intensive study abroad in Rome, Italy. His education culminated in receiving the Guggenheim Award for Painting. After graduating from RISD, he began his professional practice in New York City exhibiting paintings, mixed media, installation, and photography. His work has also been deeply informed by the perspectives he encountered in his working travels to China and Portugal, highlighted with an installation for the entrance of Centro Cultural de Belem, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon. Currently, Eric draws inspiration from Southern California where he maintains a working studio in Laguna Beach. His interpretations of ocean horizons, mixed media, fiber arts and drawings are exhibited in galleries, museums, and collected and commissioned by private collectors internationally.
